Dr. Cynthia “Cindy” Von Seggern – known as Dr. V here at Morningstar Counseling – is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist, having earned her B.A. at The University of Iowa, M.A. at Boston College, Ph.D. at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and completed her psychology residency at the Counseling and Mental Health Center at The University of Texas-Austin. Starting her therapy training in 2005, Dr. V has been providing therapy services for 20 years across multiple settings; she joined Morningstar as an Independent Contractor in 2019.

Dr. V is originally from a small community in Iowa, having then moved across the country for her education and training before making Lincoln her permanent home. She has had training and work experience in multiple settings, from secondary schools, universities, community mental health agencies, a physical health rehabilitation hospital, sexual violence agencies, and substance abuse treatment centers. Further, Dr. V has had significant experience with working with persons from diverse backgrounds with a myriad of presenting concerns. Additionally, Dr. V spent many years coordinating both the group and outreach services at Counseling and Psychological Services at the University of Lincoln-Nebraska, educating students, staff, and faculty about mental health needs and concerns, as well as had provided training and supervision to psychologists-in-training. Through these experiences, Dr. V has been trained as a generalist – meaning a provider who is trained and has experience to treat the common mental health concerns that persons may experience across the lifespan – with specific expertise in: emerging, young, and midlife adult issues/transitions; collaborative mood disorder treatment; trauma; severe and persistent mental illness (SPMI) – in particular with depression and anxiety; family-of-origin issues; parenting stressors; and neurodivergency/ADHD.

Dr. V’s approach to individual therapy is very collaborative, where we first begin with gathering your narrative of what makes you “you,” next identifying the concerns that brought you to therapy, and creating a plan to address the concerns and assist you in growing towards the path and person you want to be. You will find much of what is done in therapy with Dr. V,  is having conversations that are exploratory and discovery-based, assisting you in growing your awareness and insight of yourself, so to grow your authority with making the change you need and want in your life. Clients of Dr. V have given feedback that she is empathic, compassionate, knowledgeable, direct, uses humor, and takes any chance she can get to use metaphors or references from the 80s and 90s.

A note from Dr. V: Thank you for taking the time to get to know me; I look forward to assisting those I serve with the change process and provide support to achieve the growth and peace they are looking for. Please do not hesitate to reach out for further information about my practice and approach. I am currently accepting new clients and am in-network with BCBS (please contact Morningstar regarding other insurances I may be in-network with).
