Dr. Belinda Hinojos is a dedicated mental health professional with a strong commitment to increasing access to quality mental health services for people of color. She earned her bachelor's degree in psychology and her Master's in Counseling Psychology from the University of Kansas (KU), and completed her PhD in Counseling Psychology at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL).
Currently, Dr. Hinojos serves as the Director of Clinical Training and College Services at Morningstar, where she oversees clinical services at four tribal colleges and universities: Nebraska Indian Community College, Little Priest Tribal College, Aaniiih Nakoda College, and Haskell Indian Nations University. Additionally, as part of the Nebraska Internship Consortium in Professional Psychology, she oversees the APA-accredited doctoral internship program at Morningstar.
Dr. Hinojos worked at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln's Counseling and Psychological Services as the Diversity Coordinator, Latine Outreach Specialist, and Training Director. Before starting her doctoral program, she worked as a Licensed Professional Counselor at a community mental health agency in Kansas City, providing services to the Latine community. She began her work at Morningstar in 2020 on the Omaha Nation and Winnebago reservations.
She is an active member of the National Latinx Psychological Association and served on the board of the Association of Counseling Center Training Agencies. She is also a member of the Training Advisory Committee for the Minority Fellowship Program through the American Psychological Association.
Dr. Belinda Hinojos's professional expertise encompasses clinical training, supervision, and therapeutic work with young adults, adults, and diverse populations. Her specialized areas of focus include Latine mental health, stressors unique to undocumented immigrants, mental health in tribal communities, college student well-being, family of origin concerns, life transitions, and trauma, including both intergenerational and historical trauma. Dr. Hinojos also addresses acculturative stress, mood disorders, race-related stress, and issues impacting ethnic minorities and women. Outside of her professional work, she enjoys tacos, dancing, and spending quality time with friends and family.
