Growing up in the Central Valley, I never wondered or questioned my identity as a Chicana and Boricua. Culture was embedded in every aspect of my world, at home and within the community. Through my upbringing, I found strength in my identity as a Latina. As I pursued higher education I began to see the significance of maintaining my culture and identity when I was placed in environments that did not value those tenets. My hope as a psychological intern, is to support relatives as they find strength in their culture and various social identities, and work alongside them as they gain deeper awareness of themselves.
